TSMC Charity Foundation began to devote attention to social long-term care services since 2013. It formed a nationwide network platform—Network of Compassion—to integrate hospital resources and deploy local charity volunteers to take care of senior residents living alone in rural communities. From Taichung, Hsinchu, Tainan, Kaohsiung, New Taipei City, Taipei City, to Hualien and Taitung, the number of volunteers has topped 7000, with the total age of seniors visited annually exceeding 160,000 years old

Further, TSMC Charity Foundation also performs routine volunteer services at veterans’ houses and local nursing homes. Aside from keeping senior members company, the volunteers often could not “help” themselves by putting their professional expertise to use in their work. In a nursing home in Hsinchu, upon seeing the dim lighting, exposed tubes and pipes, and rusty fire-fighting equipment, the volunteers immediately started a fundraising campaign in the company’s employee only platform. With the assistance of vendors, the volunteers helped check the electric power system, switch the traditional lighting to the energy-efficient LED lighting, install pipe cover tubes, and replace the old fire-fighting and heating equipment. Their work has not only elevated the security condition at the nursing home, but also helped it save NT$ 140000 on utility costs each year.

TSMC Charity Foundation is determined to reach further corners in rural communities this year, where it would provide health solutions for seniors living alone. As TSMC continues with its charity work, more and more heartwarming stories are sure to come up in due course.
