After-school Care Center Guishan Church Receives “Good Luck” from Tim Ho Wan

Social welfare department of New Taipei City worked with TSMC charity foundation to donate three fridges to after-school caring centers such as Xindian Guishan Church in the minisatellite program on May 26th. Hoyii Life Proprietary Limited Company's Michelin one-star franchise Tim Ho Wan [Chinese name meaning “bringing good luck”] also joined in the action by donating five signature Hong Kong dishes to indigenous children living in rural areas, so that the children can have a balanced diet.

For aboriginal families living in rural areas, parents often need to go into town to work, so children may not see their parents by dinner time. As a result, local churches became the children’s go-to place and caring facility after school. The donation took place at Xindian Guishan Church. TSMC invited lecturers from The Island's Collective Memories Project to lead an activity where parents and children could share a loving experience and say love out loud. Children also drew their mothers in color markers on papers and gave their moms big hugs, while saying “I love you, mom!” out loud.

Vice commissioner of the social welfare department, Xu Xiu Neng, showed up to participate in the ceremony and present the award. Xu stated that there are 120 children welfare institutions in New Taipei City, and 75 institutions provide after-school child care services, of which they became the minisatellite program. For the three fridges that TSMC donated, one went to Xindian Guishan Church, and the other two went to Wulai Fushan Catholic Church and Xindian Baptist Church. The latter two also have after-school caring services and will provide meals and food for children.

The vice executive of TSMC charity foundation, Brad Peng, stated that the initiatives of the foundation were to take care of the disadvantaged children living in rural areas, promote filial piety, and reduce food waste. Sharing mutual goals with New Taipei city of putting the disadvantaged first and reducing food waste, TSMC hopes that with the fridge donation and the collaboration with Hoyii, children living in rural areas can have the opportunity to experience great food and cuisine.

Executive of Hoyii Life Proprietary Limited Company, Patricia Su, said that the five signature Hong Kong dishes provided by the Michelin one-star franchise Tim Ho Wan included baked BBQ pork buns, Hong Kong braised beef soup noodle, salted egg custard buns, pork and shrimp siew mai, braised chicken feet with abalone sauce, and the beloved Hong Kong carrot cake, which there were a hundred gift sets in total.
