TSMC Charity Foundation: A Decade of Caring for Veterans

TSMC Charity Foundation has been offering volunteer service at Retirement & Assisted Living Facility at Hsinchu since 2010, where our volunteers pay biweekly visits to the elderlies. In celebration of the end-of-year reunion, TSMC Charity Foundation invited 400 elderlies to share the festivities in the same room. With activities like scavenger hunt and lunch banquet, TSMC hopes to send love and happiness to the corners of the society by caring and keeping these elderly veterans company.

Our Long-term Commitment: Caring for the Elderly and Promoting Filial Piety

We have dedicated ourselves to fulfilling one of our initiatives: "caring for the elderly and promoting filial piety". Chairperson of TSMC Charity Foundation Sophie Chang believes that once we offer our volunteer service, we have to make it a long term commitment, for volunteers could never forget the crestfallen and heartbreaking looks on the elderlies' faces when they left the facility once before. "It is better to not have experienced happiness at all than to have it and lose it."

TSMC welcomed its tenth anniversary of offering volunteer service at the facility. Taking the physical conditions of the elderly residents into consideration, the Foundation chose to hold the event at the Room of Care, where even the physically challenged may join in the fun. The staff at the facility were happy to see the elderlies' active preparations for the upcoming event. "We haven't seen them so fired up in a while!"

Leaving No One Out: Sharing Indispensable Happiness

Our volunteers arrived early to set things up on the day of the event, welcoming the excited elderlies into the room. Led by the volunteer leader of each table, the elderlies started to engage in the scavenger hunt. To keep the game interesting and safe, the game was designed for the elderlies to exercise their upper limb joints and to open up their mouths and talk. in this way, even the physically challenged elderlies wouldn't miss out on the fun.

The elderly women particularly enjoyed the DIY activity of making festive wreaths. Excitement was written all over their faces as they couldn't wait to open the bags of materials prepared by the volunteers. As they put the stickers on carefully and made the materials into wreaths, they turned their artwork into the most magnificent decoration on their bodies. On the other hand, the elderly men were excited about taking photos with the volunteers. They couldn't help laughing, amused at their looks in the instant print photos captured by polaroid cameras.

As lunch time arrived, the elderlies saw the volunteers busy with preparing lunch, where we heard them saying kindly "why don't you have some more food yourself? Can't have you hungry, can we?" as if the volunteers were their own grandchildren. Both the elderlies and volunteers had a great time in each other's'company, marking a beautiful ending to the year.

TSMC aspires to make the society a better place as a citizen enterprise that practices corporate social responsibility. The charitable network created by TSMC Charity Foundation has been putting TSMC's altruistic goal into real practice.
