Vanguard International Lecture: Sophie Chang Calls for Enterprises to Pay Love Forward

Chairperson Sophie Chang recently gave a lecture at Vanguard International on April 26, 2019, entreating enterprises to pay love forward. During the opening remarks of the lecture, President of Vanguard International Semiconductor, Leuh Fang, talked about the numerous charity work carried out by chairperson Sophie Chang and complimented on TSMC Charity Foundation's deployment of exceptional organization skills on philanthropy, which is a feat more complicated and difficult than managing a semiconductor plant.

In the lecture, Sophie Chang shared with the audience charity work the Foundation has accomplished over the past year, such as the promotion of filial piety, medical support for rural residents, reducing food waste, disaster relief for Hualien, and bridging rural-urban educational gap. She stated that the Foundation has realized the promotion of filial piety practices with different work, which included Ministry of Education's Filial Piety Project, MOE's collaboration with K-12 Education Administration to publish 28,000 instructional materials on filial piety, as well as working with enterprises and local groups to hold filial piety workshops, and cultivating teachers and volunteers on promoting filial piety.

As for providing medical support for rural residents, TSMC collaborated with Feng Yuan Hospital on the development of Telehealth Equipment and System, in the hope that it can solve the long-term issue of lacking caregiving resources with smart medical equipment. TSMC also teamed up with Miaoli Hospital on creating Smart Caring System, and made a donation of building a multi-functional physical therapy clinic in rural Mudan town. Further, to improve the elderlies' transportation access to hospitals in rural Taitung, the late president of Yulon Group, Kenneth Yen, donated 5 compact MPVs to 5 rural towns for delivering barrier-free transportation. The donation was a blessing to the rural residents in Senyong village in Daren town, giving them access to Taitung hospital 64.7 km away.

For reducing food waste, TSMC Charity Foundation collaborated with food product company CHIMEI, providing food delivery service to the disadvantaged across 18 sites. Another food company, Hsin Tung Yang, also promised to join in the action. Sophie Chang called for more enterprises to join in the campaign, providing off-grade products to those in need.

Near the end of the lecture, Sophie Chang solicited the participation of different enterprises to pay love forward and to give a hand to those in need. As the idiom goes: many a mickle makes a muckle, Sophie Chang believes that once everyone joins in, a single, good idea will become a plentitude of brilliant ideas, facilitating the realization of the final goal. “I believe that is the compassion of wisdom,” Sophie said.
