Lecture at Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou Dental Association: Giving Medical Support to the Disadvantaged with Technology

In the lecture, Sophie Chang talked about TSMC and Feng Yuan Hospital’s collaboration on the remote healthcare equipment and system, where elderlies are given better healthcare with the help of technology. She also thanked the late CEO of Yulon Group, Kenneth Yen, for donating 5 compact MPVs for delivering barrier-free transportation to 5 rural villages.

In addition to the remote patient monitoring cases that dentists are concerned with, TSMC Charity Foundation has been focusing on the promotion of filial piety, rural health, disaster relief in Hualien, and rural education for the past year as well, said Sophie Chang. She stated that TSMC has successfully carried out the goal of filial piety promotion: including Ministry of Education’s project on practicing filial piety, collaboration with K-12 Education Administration on the publishing of 2,8000 teaching materials, working with enterprises and local groups to hold events about filial piety practices, and cultivating filial piety instructors and volunteers.

Further, Chang talked about TSMC Charity Foundation’s 10,000 Per Household project, where it provides continuous support to the needy and poor through Paying Love Forward platform. Thinking of one tragic news, Sophie said: “I once saw on the news that a single mother committed suicide with two children, and I called the people at the Foundation, berating them for not having found out sooner. She was so young! What anguish was she in to think of suicide as the solution! If we could have found out sooner, we could stop these tragedies from happening. That’s why we established the emergency helpline.” With the case as example, Chang calls for more people to join in the cause and to give a hand to those in need, so that together we may stop tragedies from happening and reduce social problems.

For the initiative of reducing food waste, Chang appreciated the sponsorship of various food product companies. She was grateful for the support of Guang Fu Song, CEO of CHEMEI Frozen Food Co., who initiatively donated off-grade products. (Off-grade products just have appearances that do not meet the criterion, but they have the same taste and nutrients as standard products.) CHEMEI Frozen Food Co. teamed up with TSMC Charity Foundation, where TSMC donated fridges and provided lists of sites and numbers for the disadvantaged population, while CHEMEI Frozen Food Co. “delivered” the food services. There are currently 18 sites of food delivery service for the disadvantaged in Pingtung, Hualien, Tainan, Chiayi, and Taichung. This delivery service brings multiple benefits for it not only reduces food waste, but it also provides the disadvantaged children in rural areas with food to eat.

Sophie Chang said the charity will keep up the good work with helping the needy and poor in the society. For the next step, she hopes to turn the charity’s focus to rural education, and to improve its education quality. Last, people were encouraged to go to Paying Love Forward platform to learn more about other charity-related information. We sincerely welcome you to join us!
