Successes from Shuanglong Elementary School's Digital Learning

Our Care Network platform has dedicated Feb. 17 to sharing experiences in digital learning, gathering TSMC Charity Foundation, China University Medical Hospital, Alpha Networks, and Lin Tseng Lien Welfare and Chairity Foundation together at Nantou to assist Shuanglong Elementary School in providing hardware and internet resources. Added to this, they also established the school's Digital Exploration course, all of which will open a variety of study methods for these students living in the mountainous region.

Spritely students at Shuanglong Elementary School share their digital learning results with their Care Network mentors.

The Care Network platform was established in 2014. Back then, Sophie Chang was director of the TSMC Volunteer Program when she witnessed the may needs of disadvantaged groups, which inspired her to found the Care Network to combine the strengths of medical care entities with social welfare NGOs for the purpose of caring for the elderly who live alone or are impoverished. Services include providing long-term company for veterans, donations of medical assistance vehicles, and even the Shuanglong Day Care Center for the Elderly – Taiwan's highest Day Care Center. However, the Care Network also seeks to improve rural students' learning opportunities, and therefore created the Digital Learning Day. The event saw China University Medical Hospital offering computer hardware, Alpha Networks giving wireless modems, Lin Tseng Lien Welfare and Charity Foundation providing classroom tables and chairs,  and TSMC Charity Foundation organizing courses for computer tablets, scientific experimentation, and career exploration.

“We want children who have less resources for learning to begin studying, exploring, and cultivate skills for making a living.” – Sophie Chang, Chairperson of TSMC Charity Foundation

With this mission in mind, the TSMC Volunteer Program filmed science experiments to produce educational videos, and students can then observe the actual scientific principles they learn from their textbooks. In the Career Exploration course, TSMC's business partners guide students in understanding the manufacturing of computer hardware and repairing  equipment, in the hopes of expanding students' choice and perspective regarding their future career.

Children make use of information hardware equipment to search for more learning resources,
while experiments introduce the wonders of science.

Additional to digital hardware and courses, TSMC Charity Foundation installed a freezer at the school and stocked it with off-grade products, introducing the positive ideals of being “food wise”  to our students.

Everyone gathers around to enjoy buns fresh out of the oven. Love is meant to spread, while food isn’t to be wasted.

To wrap up the Digital Learning Day, the Wulu Bunun Choir sang a farewell to the TSMC volunteers, and expressed high hopes that the Care Network's donated digital resources will open up new chances for a more varied and exciting education.
