TSMC Collaborates with Hsin Tung Yang: Volunteer Chefs Holding a Feast for the Elderlies
One of our most important initiatives is our Cherish Food Program. Chairperson of TSMC Charity Foundation Sophie Chang stated that the foundation is now providing food delivery to rural areas for the disadvantaged, but it hopes to provide off-grade food products to the minorities by inviting more food product companies to join in the action. Thanks to New Taipei City and Hsin Tung Yang for sharing our vision of saving food, we invited chefs to make a feast out of local, in season ugly produce for the elderlies living in rural Changyuan community.
Rural-urban migration has been a serious issue in Shuangxi community in New Taipei City in recent years. To promote a healthy lifestyle for the local elderlies, local government has established an elderly community center, and combined local female samba dancing with food sharing events. Locals expressed their gratitude to TSMC, Mai's Hsin Tung Yang Foundation, and social affairs bureau for distributing various resources to the rural areas, thereby giving elderlies and children living in the community an opportunity to have a taste of five-star cooking made with off-grade produce at the event.

Hsin Tung Yang has joined in New Taipei City's campaign for saving food with off-grade produce since 2017. Chairperson of Mai's Hsin Tung Yang Foundation, Shen Mai, expressed great joy in participating in the Cherish Food Program. Through the event, he hopes to bring more happiness to the disadvantaged living in rural areas and demonstrate further value of off-grade produce. 40 master chefs of different restaurants and hotels arrived at 8:00 a.m. at Changyuan community on the day of the event, preparing the mise en place. Chefs then started cooking at 10:00 with different methods: deep frying, stir-frying, braising, to name a few. Before long, the aroma of dishes was wafting through the air in the community center. Elderlies gathered at the temple to watch Ganlin elementary school students perform poetry recitation and dance performance led by chief of Changyuan community, Chen Zilang.
