Practicing Filial Piety as a Way of Life: TSMC Charity Foundation Facilitates the Launch of Filial Piety Resource Center Website
“Filial piety is the most important of all virtues.” To promote filial piety education and improve its social impact, chairperson of TSMC Charity Foundation, Sophie Chang, has been meeting with central and local government authorities, and her proposal has persuaded then K-12 Education Administration Division head Chiu Chien-kuo to join in the campaign. (K12EA is in charge of elementary school education to senior high education). After four years of endeavor, Chang’s efforts came into fruition: Filial Piety Resource Center website was built, paving the path for the teaching of filial piety practice in formal education.
When Sophie Chang saw the teaching materials created by Ministry of Education, she thought: “filial piety is not something we just read about in books, but something to be practiced as a way of life. With an attitude of gratitude, I wish people could join me in this practice, and together we may create a benevolent society.” Filial piety teaching resources are now uploaded to the website, free for teachers and the public to download. It offers a wealth of materials, such as teaching plans, essay contests, drawings, etc., which are designed to be in line with the modern educational style so as to enable the practice of filial piety in life.
We would like to thank principals and teachers around the nation for acknowledging the importance of filial piety education and giving us the invaluable support in our campaign. We hope more people can join us in our filial piety volunteer group, and spread the idea of filial piety further, thereby bringing positivity and love into our society.
