Rural Health Support: Donation of Medical Devices to St. Camillus for Intellectual Disability Center in Sanxing, Yilan

Born in Italy, when Father Giuseppe Didone found that people with mental and physical disabilities were in need of support and care in Yilan 32 years ago, he established St. Camillus for Intellectual Disability Center.

“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me,”(Matthew 25:40) quoted the Father.

This Center is the Promised Land for those children with profound disabilities who are not supported by their families or the society. Many of these children have mobility and movement impairments, so social workers often encounter difficulties moving these children into the bathtubs during baths, sometimes even resulting in accidents. This Center is the Promised Land for those children with profound disabilities who are not supported by their families or the society. Many of these children have mobility and movement impairments, so social workers often encounter difficulties moving these children into the bathtubs during baths, sometimes even resulting in accidents.

To solve this problem, Father Didone wished that philanthropists could donate equipment like patient lifters, shower trolleys to provide better support for the children and social workers during showers.

We would like to thank TSMC’s PD department for their efforts. The PD department and TSMC Charity Foundation launched a fundraising project together on September, 2018, which raised a total of a million N.T. dollars. The project bought 3 patient lifters, 5 transfer boards, and 4 electric shower trolleys with the funds, along with 3 oxygen concentrators in case of emergency use. With these donations, the Center would be able to provide better care to the 150 adults with disabilities.
