Chairperson Sophie Chang Rolls Up her Sleeves and Cooks for “Waste Not, Want Not” Event

TSMC Charity Foundation has been promoting the initiative to reduce food waste for the past few years. Following the compelling lectures by chairperson Sophie Chang, food product companies have joined in the campaign to donate unsellable off-grade products to those in need. Currently, we have 6 companies with us in the campaign and we deliver off-grade products to 29 sites across Taiwan.

With the assistance of TSMC IMC plant’s volunteers, TSMC Charity Foundation held “Waste Not, Want Not” event in Tainan on December 3rd (Tue). Chairperson Sophie Chang attended in person and invited Hsin Tung Yang Charity Food Association’s volunteer chefs to share their cookery. To improve rural education, the chefs were invited to teach after-school teachers on how to prepare ugly produce and utilize off-grade products. With the ingredients provided by the companies in support of the reduce food waste initiative, such as CHIMEI’s Mandarin rolls, Hsin Tung Yang’s noodles, canned foods, and imperfect produce, the chefs and teachers turned the foods into a variety of nutritious and delectable courses.

The “Waste Not, Want Not” event took place for two months, and was held in northern, southern, central and eastern Taiwan for once, drawing a total of 144 after-school teachers. Under the tutelage of the volunteer chefs, after-school teachers used their inspirations and creativity to turn the foods originally rejected by students into something students would love. With this event, we will be able to carry on reducing food waste and spread the idea further.
