Painting Smiles on Faces at Wego

Taipei Wego Private High School teamed up with TSMC Charity Foundation to hold a heartwarming and colorful parent-child workshop.
Adolescents during puberty are full of ideas and like to assert their independence, so how do parents bridge this gap besides keeping their children company?

TSMC invited Wego’s junior high school students and their parents to participate in a workshop about filial piety, giving parents and children who are usually busy with work or schoolwork an invaluable opportunity to reconnect with each other, strengthening family bonds. The workshop allowed the parents to rediscover their passions and the children to take a guess at their parents’ youthful dreams. With affectionate interactions, such as ruffling the children’s hair or touching their cheeks, or children teasing their parents about their wrinkles and double-chins, parents and children put down their beloved ones on paper through colorful drawings, bringing back memories of happiness and joy. There is a saying that “bonds” come before “intimacy” and these heartwarming moments are the best nutrients of creating filial piety between parents and children.

During the workshop, we saw parents and children look at each other and broke into smiles. When parents started talking about their parents with their drawings, their words were often filled with so much love and gratitude that a few tears were shed and voices cracked, demonstrating the unique love and bond between parents and children are beyond verbal description. Only with filial piety as the core value can children develop good character and turn this virtue into action, realizing further teachings of education. This happens to coincide with Wego’s founding objective: to cultivate Wego all-around talents.

Just as the Chairperson of TSMC Charity Foundation Sophie Chang has said: “Filial piety isn’t a virtue found only in books, but a course of action. By putting filial piety into practice, we would be able to create sincere interaction between people and build a beautiful society.” Sophie wishes to see others jumping on the filial piety bandwagon with TSMC and Wego, introducing further benevolence into society.
